          I have this theory that in learning how to read, the most important thing is to only learn how to read a letter and a syllable, particularly the first syllable of a word. If the person could already read a syllable, then the next syllable or syllables of a particular word would only be read by familiarity of the language he is reading. For example, if the subject could see and read the syllable pen and he sees that there are still letters next to the syllable pen, then he would just guess and read that the next syllable is read as sil because he is familiar with the word pencil. This training could be done with a card with or without drawing or picture, at the start or you can directly train him through the usual reading materials. I believe that by repeated practice he would eventually learn not only how to read all kinds of syllables in that language he is learning to read, but also how to spell properly.
